Welcome to all new and returning students. I hope that you all had a fun and safe summer. I am very excited for this upcoming dance term. We are going to have another year filled with excitement learning the art of dance. As you can see the studio has been renovated.
great new floor!
I am very grateful to those who came out and helped with our renovations. I would like to extend a special thank you to the following people: Carol and Julie Byler, Jane and Emma Cobb, Ashley and Liz Parker, and Lisa Axelson. I would also like to say a special thanks and congratulations to the competitive team at Eurhythmics.
Without all their hard work over the festival season, our new dance floor would not exist as you see it now!

About our new floor
There are a few new rules regarding our new floor. You must have indoor shoes only on this floor. So, for our hip hop groups, please purchase a new pair of runners for your classes only!! No street shoes. Wet shoes, rocks or pebbles will damage the floor.
You may go to Wal-Mart and pick up a cool new pair of runners for your classes for only $12.97. I have a pair at the studio to show you what they look like. Plus if everyone purchases these shoes, then it makes your costumes look complete as a team.
Also, absolutely no food or drink is allowed in the studio. We have a wonderful eating and waiting area for these purposes. Students are also advised that socks are not permitted. You must have the appropriate footwear or just bare feet until you get the appropriate footwear. This is for your safety, so please follow the advised and rules given.
Parents are also advised that they too must remove their footwear before entering the studio area if you are invited in to observe a class.
Everyone’s cooperation will be greatly appreciated to help maintain the new floor. Thank you. |

Class Schedules and Placement
Please be advised that some students will be moved around during the first two weeks of classes. Students will be moved based on their abilities and strengths. Class times may change but the days (I hope) will not.
I understand that parents have a lot of scheduling to deal with for the year so I will do my best to accommodate everyone, however, strengths and weaknesses are the important factor that myself, as an instructor, must consider to avoid discouragement and injury. You will be notified by telephone if there will be any changes that affect your scheduling. . |

Jurassic Classic
We would like to invite all hip hop dancers of any age enrolled in our hip hop program to take part in the third annual Jurassic Classic Festival which will be held at the University of Calgary in either February or March of 2006. If you are interested, please pick up a form and fill out the appropriate information. Please be advised that if you are going to participate, you must be available on the day of scheduled rehearsals. This day will be either Friday or Saturday. Once all forms are completed, you will be given your rehearsal schedules.
If you are involved in the Jurassic Classic Festival, you will still be required to attend your regular scheduled lessons on top of your rehearsal schedule. You will also be required to pay a festival fee (approx $15.00) and you will have two costumes and routines for the year end recital. Remember, you will not be billed for the extra rehearsal times, so it is like getting two hip hop classes a week for the price of one!!!! Please pick up a form if you are interested, fill it out and return it to the studio no later than Friday, September 30th.

| Adult Dance |
| Are you interested in an adult jazz/hip hop class? If so, let me know immediately. This class will be a great way to get exercise and get more involved in the studio’s dance family. Don’t worry, you will not be expected to wear body suits or tutus. It will also be a great way to meet other parents of participating dancers.
I would like to know if you are interested by September 24th, 2005 so I can schedule a time and day. If you have a child that is dancing at the studio, your fee per month is only $18.00. If you have a friend that would like to join, their fee is only $25.00/month. As far as performances go, a vote will be taken, however, I strongly encourage everyone to participate - Even if its only for the year end recital. Let me know!!! It will be a blast!!! Just call the studio and leave your name and number so I can contact you when the class will commence. I would like to start it in October. (932 – 0880).

Drink Lots of Water!
Water makes up 60% of our bodies and 70% of our muscles. It
carries nutrients to our tissues and waste products away. When we don't have enough
water, our performance lags. Strength, power, and endurance all suffer. Evaporative
cooling requires 2 to 3 liters of perspiration per hour during heavy exercise.
Loss of body water equaling just 1 to 3% of the body weight will have an adverse
effect on your performance. Don't Wait Until
You Feel Thirsty So what's wrong with just waiting until our brain
flashes a warning "You're thirsty - drink now"? Thirst may not occur
until more than 1% of your body weight is lost. This is equivalent to about three
cups of fluid. This doesn't sound like much, but it is enough to decrease performance.
Because the body's thirst mechanism does not work well during exercise, you must
be sure to drink more than enough to just quench your thirst.
Choosing The Right Fluids
back
to top
Plain cool water is the best and cheapest
source of fluid. Drinking water is the easiest way to re hydrate the body. Cool
fluids are absorbed faster than warmer ones and are less shocking to the stomach
than ice cold ones. Generally, we have sufficient carbohydrates and minerals to
last an evening of dancing, so sports drinks or carbohydrate replacements designed
for long distance runners are not usually necessary. Stay away from salt tablets.
They actually draw water out of the blood stream into the stomach. Fruit juice
diluted 1:1 with water is good. The dilution brings the carbohydrate concentration
down to 6 to 8%, which is the optimum for absorption. Soda pop and undiluted juices
are too rich in carbohydrate, which can cause stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhea.
Caffeine drinks, such as tea, coffee, and cola beverages, and alcohol are diuretics
and dehydrate the body even more. How Much Water
Is Enough?
You need to drink water before, during and after dancing.
Drink a glass of water before you get started dancing. Later, you should drink
at least 3-4 ounces of water every 15 minutes when dancing vigorously. That's
two cups an hour. Sounds like a lot, but it is only about half the amount you
can loose by heavy sweating. You definitely need to continue re hydrating after
the dance. Down another glass or two before leaving the dance hall. That will
give your body a chance to re hydrate before you go to bed. Make
a great new habit - always carry your water bottle!
