Competitive

The competitive program is designed for the dancer who feels that they would like to pursue their art of choice and are willing to push themselves to their limits and beyond. Competitive students are also considered full time and must make a full commitment to the studio and to their fellow dancers as they are part of a team. Competitive students are placed into groups based upon their technical strength in each discipline. Students involved in this program are expected to take a variety of technical classes and commit their time to choreography classes which are held above their technical training. Competitive students may partake in festival and competition work with a variety of groups. Disciplines including tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, ballet, musical theatre and/or modern. The most common disciplines are jazz and lyrical. Others are optional to the student and they must sign up to participate. The choreography times are of no extra expense to the parents and students as they are included in their monthly fee. If a student is not pulling their weight in a particular group, the instructor will have the right to pull that student right up to the time of their first performance.

Competitive students will participate in 2 – 4 festivals and competitions. Participation with solos and duets is up to the dancers, but must participate in at least two. At times the festivals and competitions will run during school time. Students are expected to inform their school teachers of days that may be missed and plan ahead to avoid falling behind in their school work. Festivals may also run over spring break and students will be expected to be in attendance to all festivals that the studio is participating in. Most festivals and competitions that the studio has chosen to participate in have not conflicted much with school unless the student is involved in solo, duo or trio work. Competitive students must take the following classes to be able to be considered into the program: Based on the level of the dancer, students will be expected to take 1-2 ballet classes, a strength and conditioning class, 1 – 2 jazz classes and commit their time to choreography schedules. Tap is optional so therefore, monthly fees will be adjusted accordingly. Solo, duo and trio work will be added on top of the full time rates unless the instructor would like certain dancers to do extra numbers. Costumes and festivals fees are also not included in your monthly rates as they are an added expense to a competitive student.

Team work is fully expected at this level and there will be no tolerance to dancers who are not willing to be part of the team. A competitive student is expected to work and help the group; they should not expect the group to work for them. We must all work together to make the group work successful and enjoyable for all dancers and instructors.

Non-competitive

This program is designed for dancers who want to pursue their training in the art, but are unable to make the commitment of a competitive student. It is also designed for the dancer who is continuing their training in the art and discipline of choice, but would like to keep it as a recreational activity.

All non-competitive students will receive the same formal training as a competitive student in their discipline(s) of choice, but will not partake in festivals and competitions. Therefore, the main goal of a non-competitive student will be to train and aim for their success which will be displayed at the year end recitals. Non-competitive students will be expected to take part in the recitals which in turn will require the purchase of a costume for each routine. Instructors will try to limit the cost to around $50.00. They will also be included in the picture day sessions which are usually held in February and/or March of the dance term. Some classes may also be invited to participate in one festival. Information will be provided to the parents as to what is involved and they may decline this option if they wish. In order for the class to participate in an introductory festival, at least 85% of the class must be able to commit. Dancers not participating will not be left out, they will still learn the routine, purchase the costume (for recital) and at the festival, they will announce the number of students missing from the performance. All dancers are important and no one should feel left out.

The non-competitive student is still part of the Eurhythmics Dance Studio, inc. dance family and their success in their training is very important to the instructors. The doors are always open to the non-competitive student to become competitive in the future, but they must be willing to make further commitments and understand the classes that are involved in being a competitive student, which is explained below.

A non-competitive student is eligible to compete with solos, duets and/or trio work but must abide by the conditions of a competitive student. Decisions to permit private lessons will be up to the instructor and owner/operator of the studio.
